5,000 participants to attend Gyan Kumbh in Haridwar

About 5,000 persons including Ministers, academicians and students will attend the two-day Gyan Kumbh to be inaugurated in Haridwar on November 3 by President Ram Nath Kovind. The deliberations in this historic initiative will be of national importance, said Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

Addressing the media at a hotel here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that while president of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will inaugurate the Gyan Kumb at the University of Patanjali on November 3, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be present at the conclusion of the event on the following day.

The Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar will be the chief speaker in one of the five technical sessions to be held as part of the event. The first technical session on governmental efforts for quality in higher education will be presided over by the Chief Minister and co-chaired by the State Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat and Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya chancellor Pranav Pandya. Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar will be the main speaker in this session. Higher Education Ministers of various States will also express their views in this session. The second session on November 4 will be held on higher education and Indian knowledge tradition. It will be chaired by Acharya Balkrishna and co-chaired by Uttarakhand Sanskrit University vice chancellor PK Dikshit and Kumaon University vice chancellor DK Nauriyal. Swami Ramdev will be the main speaker in this session.

The third session will be held on the subject of drafting and implementation of policies in high education . The Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Satya Pal Singh will chair this session in which higher education secretaries of various States will also express their views. The fourth session on innovative research and improvement in quality will be chaired by University Grants Commission chairman, professor DP Singh, co-chaired by Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University vice chancellor US Rawat and Doon university vice chancellor professor Chandra Shekhar Nautiyal.

Directors of central institutions and educationalists from various institutions will share their views in this session. The fifth and final technical session on challenges in higher education and skill development will be chaired by former vice chancellor of Garhwal University SP Singh, co-chaired by Uttarakhand Residential University vice chancellor professor HS Dhami and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) adviser, professor MSM Rawat.

Vice-chancellors of various universities will express their views in this session. The CM further informed that higher Education Ministers of 18 States, nine Ministers of Uttarakhand, higher education secretaries from seven states, 131 vice chancellors of various universities, 150 college principals and teachers from Uttarakhand, 417 college students of the host State, 3485 teachers and students of private self financed colleges and 200 other invited educationalists and other guests among others will be participating in the two-day Gyan Kumbh.

Minister of State for Higher Education, Dhan Singh Rawat was also present in the Press conference.
