Cong MLA Karan Dalal files complaint against Chautala

Thursday, 13 September 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

A day after indulging in a heated argument with Leader of opposition in Haryana Assembly Abhay Chautala, which led to both leaders brandishing their shoes at the each other, Congress MLA Karan Dalal on Wednesday lodged a police complaint accusing the INLD leader of threatening him in the House.

Dalal who was suspended from State Assembly for one year over his remarks against the state of Haryana, alleged that Chautala has threatened him and his family.

A day before, both Dalal and Chautala had entered into a heated argument in the House and had hurled abuses and charged at each other with a shoe in their hand, prompting the Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar to summon marshals.

In the complaint lodged at Sector 3 Police Station here, Dalal said, “Abhay Chautala proposed my suspension from the House upon which heated exchanges took place between me and Abhay in the House and as a result of which he lost his mental balance and started abusing and threatening me.”

“When I told him to behave, he threatened me saying that he will see me outside the House and get me eliminated. The House was adjourned and later Abhay Singh Chautala again threatened me saying that he will get me and my family eliminated,” said Dalal, a five-time MLA said in his police complaint.

The Congress MLA alleged, “There is an imminent danger to me and my family at the hands of Abhay Chautala and as such a case be registered and lawful action may please be taken against him.”

Police has said that it will examine the complaint.

Dalal, while talking to the mediapersons said that he is a CBI witness in the disproportionate assets case against Chautala and he would move an application before the court in Delhi on September 26 apprising it how the INLD leader threatened him and his family.

The Congress MLA said he would plead with the court to cancel Chautala’s bail in the case.

“INLD, which is the main opposition party, should have supported me. But the party, which is hand in glove with the BJP, conspired against me. Abhay Chautala is behaving like a BJP’s bouncer,” he alleged while adding that why was the INLD leader not suspended for flashing a shoe at him.

“I will also write to the leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party, to apprize them that the INLD already has an alliance with the BJP and they are betraying the BSP,” he added.

On approaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court over his one year suspension from the Haryana Assembly, Dalal said, “I will hold meetings in my assembly constituency and then take a decision in this regard.”

Reacting to the complaint lodged by Dalal, Abhay Chautala said that Dalal  is in the habit of lodging such complaints and he had done so in the past as well.

While talking to the mediapersons here, Chautala said that in the year 2000 too, after being suspended from the Assembly, he (Dalal) had lodged a police complaint charging the INLD leader of threatening him.

While Karan Dalal was suspended from the House for a year over his remarks made against the state of Haryana during a calling attention motion on the issue of deletion of 25 lakh ration card holders on the last day of monsoon session on Tuesday, the State Assembly had also passed a resolution to condemn him and Chautala for their ‘unruly behavior’ in the House.

Hooda and Chautala blame each other for the ruckus Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Leader of opposition and INLD’s Abhay Chautala on Wednesday blamed each other for the unruly incident on the last day of monsoon session of Haryana Assembly.

The senior Congress leader while talking to the mediapersons here said that yesterday (Tuesday), was a black day in the history of Haryana Vidhan Sabha. The way the Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly behaved and waved his shoe at another MLA was really unfortunate, he said.

Blaming Chautala and the BJP for the dramatic scenes that played out in the House a day before, Hooda said that they both planned the entire drama.

Hooda also described Dalal’s suspension for one year as unfortunate. We had always been maintaining that INLD is BJP's 'B' team. The INLD has failed to discharge its role as the main opposition party, he alleged.

Lashing out at the Manohar Lal Khattar Government, Hooda said, “The BJP conspired with the INLD to target our MLAs to save itself from having to answer the questions in the State Assembly.”

On the other hand, Abhay Chautala accused Hooda of orchestrating the unfortunate incident that happened in the House.

“It was Hooda who had given directions to his MLA to act in such unruly manner in the Assembly. I acted in self defence and held a shoe… But they (Congress) planned the entire incident,” Chautala added.
