Physico-Chemical Remediation Treatment System, meant to ensure clean Ganga, has been inaugurated at Kukrail Nala in Lucknow in the presence of the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and many others on Tuesday. Notably, the project has been envisioned by Swami Chidanand Saraswati, president of Parmarth Niketan.
Saddened over the worsening condition of Ganga, the Swami had pledged to find a solution to pollution threatening one of the world's most sacred rivers.
He had earlier sought all types of technologies and solutions while addressing International and national level conferences over the years. Finally, he decided to roll out pilot plans involving such technologies which could clean the sewage being discharged in Ganga. Physico-Chemical Remediation Treatment System is the result of the endeavour.
Chidanand Saraswati said that the inauguration was a step in the direction of translating his vision of transforming sewage points in Ganga into selfie points into reality. He said that the people are showing zeal to adapt and understand the initiative.
The first pilot project had been inaugurated by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at Chandrabagha Nala in Rishikesh.
It had been initiated by the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, Ganga Action Parivar-Parmarth Niketan together with Flexituff International Limited and Ingeo Contractor Private Ltd as the technology and implementation partners.
Following talks with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the decision to set up the next and the first one in UP at Kukrail Nala in Lucknow was taken.
The swami said that the next sewage to selfie point would come up at Har Ki Paidi, Haridwar and then in Allahabad ahead of the Kumbh Mela.
He hoped that with the active engagement and involvement of the Government, many more drains would be effectively treated in time to come.
Among others present on the occasion were the Uttar Pradesh Minister of Urban Development, Suresh Khanna and the Minister for technical education and medical education, Ashutosh Tandon.
