CJ administers oath to two new HC judges

Chandigarh: The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Krishna Murari on Friday administered oath of office to Lalit Batra and Arun Kumar Tyagi as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Swearing-in ceremony was organized in the High Court Auditorium. Among those present during the oath taking ceremony included all judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Registrar, Officers of the registry, Senior advocates and office-bearers of High Court Bar Association.

Hry DGP to open CIA Police Station at Palwal

Chandigarh: Haryana Director General of Police BS Sandhu will inaugurate newly constructed building of CIA Police Station, Palwal, on Saturday, besides inaugurating Traffic Police Station at Mandi Khera in Nuh district. Spokesperson said that the building of CIA police station was constructed by Haryana Police Housing Corporation at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore having all kind of required infrastructure. The Traffic Police Station, Mandi Khera, was constructed at a cost of Rs 161.71 lakh which would help in tackling the issue of congestion and unregulated traffic in the town.

NIT confers honorary doctorate to Munjal

Chandigarh: Hero Moto Corp’s chairman, managing director and CEO Pawan Munjal was conferred with honorary doctorate at the 16th convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, on Friday. NIT-Kurukshetra is Munjal’s alma mater from where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1976. “The real world outside this campus is going to be very demanding and challenging. One need to be prepared, mentally and physically, to face the challenges and hold your own. Don’t just be managers and try to manage and maintain the status quo, but be the agents of change and disruption.” Munjal, who was the chief guest, told the students.

Talk on ‘Cyber Crime’ at GGSCW-26

Chandigarh: The Legal Literacy Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women-26 on Friday organized a talk on ‘Cyber Crime with Special Reference to Women’. The guest spokesperson Dr Supinder Kaur from Panjab University’s Department of Law spoke on various ills that prevail in the cyber world. She quoted laws and gave remedies also. The students participated enthusiastically. Principal Dr Jatinder Kaur appreciated the efforts towards making women aware of their rights.

Preparations in full swing for sant Samagam

Chandigarh: The preparations for the 71st Annual Nirankari Sant Samagam, to be held from November 24 to 26, are on full swing. The venue at Samalkha in Haryana was inaugurated by Satguru Mata Sudiksha Ji Maharaj on October 14, where more than 4,000 volunteers from Sant Nirankari Sewadal and other devotees from various branches of the Mission across the country are working every day. All the arrangements are being looked after by Mandal’s executive committee.

City celebrates State-level Kala Utsav

Chandigarh: Chandigarh celebrated the second event of the State Level Kala Utsav-2018, Solo Music (Vocal) Competition, on Friday at Bhawan Vidyalaya, Sector-27, Chandigarh. As many 11 government, government aided and private schools participated with full enthusiasm. The event aims to facilitate students to explore, understand and put forth their artistic talents by providing an opportunity to experience cultural diversity of our nation at school, district, state and national level.

CRT distributes school bags, notebooks to the underprivileged

Panchkula: Chandigarh Round Table (CRT), an NGO, on Friday distributed school bags and notebooks to the underprivileged students at Government Middle School. Sector-21. The distribution was a part of weeklong Round Table Week which was observed, informed NGO chairman Captain Viraat Kaushal, adding that on Friday, similar distribution was done in Prem Nagar School of Mandi Gobindgarh and government schools in Ambala and Baddi. Kaushal informed a session on ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ and menstrual hygiene for girl students was held at Government Middle School, Sector 21 by Dr Monika Abrol, besides distribution of sanitary pads to girl students.

National techno-cultural fest at CGC Landran

Mohali: Parivartan, the 13th national techno-cultural fest of Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, concluded with a scintillating display of talent and technical brilliance. Chief guest on the occasion Punjab Animal Husbandry Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, who inaugurated the event, appreciated the efforts of students and faculty of CGC Landran. More than 20,000 students from various schools and colleges across the country participated in the two-day event. The fest features various competitions in technical, non-technical and cultural categories including web designing, CAD Modelling, Robo soccer, Ad Mad Show, Programming, Auto Quiz, Technical Treasure Hunt, among others.
