The varsity is exploring the possibilities of fetching financial support from various quarters for establishing its “satellite” campus.

JNU Vice-Chancellor, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar told The Pioneer that a committee would be formed to explore the place for the campus; the program’s to be run and “financial feasibility”. He said that the idea is to make available JNU’s quality education to more students outside Delhi.

The satellite campus would be another big initiative of Vice-Chancellor M .Jagadesh Kumar after the successful launch of School of Engineering and School of Management and Entrepreneurship at JNU this year.

“JNU plans to have a “self-sustaining” model for its satellite campus which will focus primarily on professional and scientific courses. The new campus will have a “Bio-Incubator” and “industry funded labs”, the VC said implying that industry-academia collaboration would be the key and will remain at the helm of affairs.

The varsity is mulling to establish special “Chair Professor” positions for the “satellite” campus. Moreover the experts and the faculty would be drawn from both the industry and academia.  The Executive Council (EC) of JNU passed a resolution to explore the feasibility of constructing a satellite campus outside the national Capital. The JNU Act 1966 empowers the university to establish within Delhi or outside it, such special centers and specialized laboratories and such other units for research and instruction as are necessary for furtherance of its objects.
