MP Govt takes serious note on zika virus

The State Government has taken a serious note on finding zika virus cases in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Secretary Basant PratapSingh has given instructions to all the Senior Officers of the Health Department to hold a daily review meeting in this connection and to destroy larvae from the affectedareas. A micro plan has been prepared by a team of the Government of India led by Dr Ravindran for the assistance of the State Government to prevent zika virus by visiting the affected areas.

Under the plan, samples have been taken by 170 teams in Bhopal, 40 in Vidisha (Sironj) and 15 in Sehore for testing zika virus by conducting house to house larva survey, larva annihilation, identification of patients suffering from fever and pregnant women.

The surveillance has been conducted with the main goal to reduce reproduction of Aedes mosquitoes and infection. Action is being taken under the Intensive zika surveillance in the zika virus affected areas like Gopalpur, Chinnota, and hamidkhedi village of Ashta block of Sehore district, Kalyanpur and Veerpur village of Sironj block of Vidisha district and 18 wards of Bhopal city. ‘ Activities are being already started by 58 teams on finding one positive case of zika virus in Sagar district also by preparing a micro plan.

Temefos, cyphnothrin and pyrethrum to control grown up mosquitoes are available with the Health department in the state in sufficient quantity to destroy larva of zika virus.

Eighty five samples out of 204 samples sent for the test of zika virus till date has been found positive in the state.

Twenty nine samples out of 60 samples sent from Bhopal have been found positive and that include samples of 5 pregnant women.

A special monitoring and care is being taken on these 5 women affected from zika virus.  As per the information till now, no new area has been found affected by the virus in Bhopal.
