A few days left for the urban local body polls, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat hit the campaign trail in Haridwar on Monday. While addressing a public meeting on the day, he sought to strike a chord with the electorate by flaunting the corruption- free image of his party and slammed the Congress on various counts.
“The Harish Rawat-led Congress government was steeped in corruption. When we had re-estimation done for four projects which the government had undertaken, we found an over-estimation of Rs 60 lakh. These projects are Mohkimpur overbridge, Raipur overbridge, Janki Setu in Rishikesh and a flyover in Dehradun. Besides, the National Highway scam in Rudrapur is known to everyone,” the CM said and added that his party and the government helmed by it have launched a relentless campaign against corruption, no matter whether the corrupt was a peon or a senior officer.
He also dwelt at length on the development projects being initiated for Haridwar. He said that all the electricity cables would be made underground to make it smart city. He also said that the process of laying gas pipeline was underway. He exuded confidence that the BJP would win all the seven mayoral polls in the state.
CM was accompanied by the state urban development minister Madan Kaushik, mayoral candidate Anu Kakkar, district party president Naresh Bansal and former Ganga Mahasabha president Ashok Tripathi.
Meanwhile, the former chief minister and Congress stalwart Harish Rawat also campaigned at Kankhal on the day. He slammed the BJP government for the anti-encroachment drive which rendered countless people homeless. “Many have lost their business too,” he said and added that a severe debacle was staring the saffron party both in the civic body polls and 2019 general election. He urged the people to vote for the Congress mayoral candidate from Haridwar Anita Sharma and make the saffron party to kiss the poll dust
