The best restaurants in India

A travel website examined award-winning eateries taking into account their quantity and quality to determine the most reviewed and highly chosen ones. By Team Viva

Have you ever wondered why certain foods or culinary traditions are so important to one’s culture? The food of a country is a direct reflection of its culture.

A travel site, TripAdvisor, announced the winners of its Travellers Choice awards for Restaurants in India and around the world. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for restaurants around the world, gathered over a 12-month period.

“The top restaurants in this year’s list truly reflect India’s diverse cultural heritage. Dining in each of these restaurants is an experience in itself with dishes that are not only a visual delight but also full of exquisite flavours. I am certain that the 2018 Travellers’ Choice winners will inspire foodies to travel only to dine at these best-in-class restaurants within India and outside,” said Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India.

Among the top five restaurants in India were Indian Accent in New Delhi,  Mosaic in Kochi, Dakshin in Hyderabad,  Spice Kitchen in Pune and K3 situated in New Delhi.

Bestowed with prestigious awards for its exquisite take on dishes and fine dining experience, Indian Accent, received the award for the fifth time as the number one Traveller’s Choice Restaurant in India. Their must try dish is Butter Chicken Kulcha.

“We are humbled to have won this award for the 5th consecutive year. We are thrilled, and would like to thank the organisation for providing this platform to travellers where they can leave such candid feedback. A big shout out to our diners who have supported us always and, of course, the amazing team that we have both in the kitchen and at service in the restaurant. This would not be possible without them,” said Manish Mehrotra, corporate chef of Indian Accent.

Mosaic offers the perfect ambience for a quick breakfast, business lunch or an intimate evening meal. From authentic Kerala cuisine to Pan Asian, mocktails to freshly brewed coffee, the diners will surely be delighted to witness a diverse palate of flavours. Their must try dish is Alleppey Fish Curry.

Third winner is the Dakshin in Hyderabad, Telangana, known for its  carefully executed culinary experiences.  It is one of ITC Group’s finest restaurants serving the best South Indian cuisines with spot-on flavours and the right dashes of spices.

Their recommended Dish is Royyala Iguru.

With a perfect blend of affluence ambience and delectable cuisines, Spice Kitchen is indeed one of the best fine dining restaurants in Pune. It covers a multitude of cuisines from all over the world that are cooked to perfection. Their must try is Murgh reshmi kebab.

K3 prides itself on its ambitious menu, elegant décor and prompt flawless service, making it one of the best all-day dining restaurants in New Delhi. The restaurant is fashioned like a food theatre where one can enjoy three live kitchens displaying three distinct cuisines,  North Indian, Cantonese and Tuscan. Check out their Tandoori Jheenga.

It’s important to remember that each dish has a special place in the culture to which it belongs, and is special to those who prepare it. Food is a portal into culture and it should be treated as such.
