Cong lodges complaint against 2 TV channels for promoting BJP schemes

Tuesday, 09 April 2019 | TN RAGHUNATHA | Mumbai

The Congress on Monday lodged a complaint against BJP, Zee TV, & TV production team and actors of serials Bhabhi ji Ghar par Hai and Tujhse hai Raabta for allegedly violating the poll code of conduct through the misuse of two popular television serials to promote various schemes of the Modi government.

A delegation of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), led by its General Secretary and Spokesperson Sachin Sawant, met the State Chief Election Officer and lodged a formal complaint against the BJP for alleged violation of the code of conduct by the BJP.

Talking to media persons after lodging a complaint against the BJP and others with the State Chief Election Officer, Sawant said:  “The BJP has now become a Charlatan and are using all deceptive and illegal means to influence the electorate. Since the last few days television serials with high TRPs are being used to promote government schemes to benefit the ruling party”.

Sawant alleged that the schemes like Mudra Yojana, Swachcha Bharat Abhiyaan were being projected as the key achievements of the current government and Prime Minister is said to be responsible for these achievements.

“We have submitted the clips of these serials in which the actors are seen indirectly campaigning for the ruling party and we feel the methodology fits the definition of paid news,” Sawant said.

“The BJP is stooping to the lowest possible level ever since they have started sensing imminent defeat,” Sawant said.

In its complaint, the MPCC has demanded that the two erring channels responsible must be taken off air immediately and action be taken against the owners of the channels as well as the producers, actors of the serials and the BJP.
