At 83 years of age, National Conference president and former Member of Parliament, Dr Farooq Abdullah, is 'apparently' taking Election Commission of India (ECI) for a ride by repeatedly doing 'cut, copy, paste job and getting away easily too while hiding factual details of movable/immovable assets of his wife.
On Monday, when Dr Abdullah filed his nomination papers ahead of contesting Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat, fourth time in a row, he once again declared in his affidavit, "since my spouse is in London from April 1990, I have no knowledge about her assets in London (U.K). However, she has no property in J&K (India)".
Dr Abdullah is contesting from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat since 2009.
Since it is mandatory for every contesting candidate to declare details of movable and immovable assets and cash in hand against the name of spouse and dependants at the time of filing nomination papers Dr Abdullah is also religiously following the practice.
In his latest affidavit, Dr Abdullah declared, " he owns movable assets to the tune of Rs 10.6 crore and total worth of his immovable assets is Rs 10.68 crore. According to the affidavit, "charges in the case related to criminal conspiracy for misappropriation of JKCA funds are yet to be framed".
But close scrutiny of affidavits submitted by him since 2008 clearly reveals he is 'apparently' misleading the election commission of India by giving a standard reply that his wife is away in London from April 1990. I have no knowledge about her assets in London (U.K).
