RS Secy pitches for gender equality

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Secretariat Secretary Dr PPK Ramacharyulu on Friday said that the constitutional provisions for gender equality have been supplemented from time to time by significant women-centric legislations like the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act. The implementation of this Act has, however, not been able to address the concerns regarding women security and safety at the workplace, he said at the concluding address of the two day sensitisation workshop on various aspects of the issue of sexual harassment at workplace and the provisions of the Act in this regard.

New Delhi: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the Government has taken a “historic” decision to induct women in the military police with an aim to enhance their representation in the armed forces. Women will be inducted in a graded manner to eventually comprise 20 per cent of total Corps of Military Police, the official handle of the Defence Minister tweeted. Their role would range from probing rape and molestation cases to assisting the Army wherever required.

‘celebrate Bose’s b’day as Deshprem Divas’

New Delhi: The Forward Bloc has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate the birthday of its founder Subhas Chandra Bose as “Deshprem Divas”, more than eight years after the demand was rejected by the then Congress-led government. Bose had quit the Congress and floated the All India Forward Bloc in 1939. Calling Modi an “ardent admirer of Netaji”, the Left party, in a letter to the prime minister, requested that the day be renamed as soon as possible as January 23, 2019 would be the 123rd birth anniversary of Bose.

New Delhi: BJP farmers’ wing president Virendra Singh Mast on Friday said the Centre will soon announce a “very big decision” aimed at boosting the income of farmers. He said the government had taken a number of “historic” decisions for rural development and the agriculture sector.

New Delhi: The BJP is committed to make India a strong and resurgent nation while the Congress is standing with those who raise anti-India slogans, Union Minister Smriti Irani said on Friday. She further attacked the Congress, saying one of its senior leaders had advocated repealing the law that defined sedition.
