Smriti Irani thanks Amethi for victory

After uprooting Congress president Rahul Gandhi from his party bastion, BJP leader Smriti Irani Friday thanked the people here for "helping the lotus bloom".

Irani defeated the Congress chief and sitting MP by a margin of 55,120 votes.

In a tweet, Irani said, "Ek nayi subah Amethi ke liye, ek naya sankalp. Dhanyawad Amethi, shat shat naman. Apne vikas per vishwas jataya, kamal ka phool khilaya. Amethi ka abhaar" (A new morning for Amethi, a new resolve. Thankyou Amethi. You showed faith in development and helped the lotus bloom).

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Gandhi had defeated Irani by 1,07,903 votes.

Later, in a recorded message to the people of her constituency, she thanked them for blessing a common worker of the BJP and creating history which was witnessed by the country and world.

"Today, a common worker of the BJP expresses her gratitude to you all. I repeat my resolve that in the coming five years resolution of all problems will be extended to every village, every purva and every nyay panchayat-level. It will be my commitment. Amethi has taken steps towards development ," she added.

The recorded message was released in Amethi by her IT cell team.
