‘No road, no vote' greets CM on village padyatra

Monday, 22 April 2019 | Roshan Kumar | Ranchi

Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Sunday had both good and bitter experience at the padyatra he took out for BJP candidate Sanjay Seth at Sukurhutu village under Kanke Assembly segment. The people greeting Chief Minister shook hands, took selfies and also interacted with him. However, there were some who raised the slogan 'no road, no vote' during Chief Minister's visit.

Das assured the agitating people that within one month after the revocation of model code of conduct, the road at Sukurhutu village will be constructed on priority basis. Sukurhutu which falls under Kanke Assembly segment is considered BJP bastion as the saffron party legislators have been representing the Assembly segment for more than two decades. BJP's Ram Chander Baitha had represented the seat for three terms, while presently the seat is held by BJP Jitu Charan Ram.

The Chief Minister, to solicit support for BJP candidate from Ranchi Sanjay Seth, reached the Sukurhutu village at around 4.30 PM. Large number of BJP and AJSU party workers along with local MLA Jitu Charan Ram were present to welcome the Chief Minister. The local women welcomed Chief Minister by sprinkling sacred water, applied tilak and presented him flowers and garlands. The party rath donning the pictures of PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Chief Minister Raghubar Das and all BJP MLAs from Ranchi Lok Sabha segment was leading the Padyatra. BJP's new slogans of 'Abki Baar 400 Par' were raised by BJP supporters to galvanise the crowd.

During the two kilometer padyatra, Das was seen waving at the crowd, breaking the security cordon to shake hand with people and urging people to vote for BJP candidate so as to make Narendra Modi the PM again. The CM not only shook hand with people, but also didn't disappoint people requesting him for selfie. Rohit Kumar, a 25 year youth who got the opportunity to click a selfie with Chief Minister said, "It is memorable day for me as CM not only shake hand, but agreed to my request of clicking a selfie with him." He added, "The CM asked me to vote for Modi to build a strong nation."

However, there were some people who raised the slogan "no road, no vote" as the interior roads of the village, having a population of nearly 25,000, is in poor shape.

The village road is in pathetic condition due to the stagnant water and potholes.

Jaleshwar Mahto, another resident of area said, "We have local problems such as poor roads and drains, but this election is not focused on solving these minor issued but is instead focused on making a stronger India."

Sukurhutu is a communally sensitive area having both Hindu and Muslim population. In 2017, the area witnessed communal tension between the two communities.

However, the CM today visited houses of members from both the communities, urging them to vote for Modi so as to build a strong nation. He said, "BJP believes in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, we are optimistic that our Muslim brothers too will vote for Modi."

Sources said that the nomination of rebel BJP leader and sitting MP of Ranchi, Ram Tahal Chaudhary, has put BJP in sticky wicket in Ranchi Lok Sabha seat as he is likely to cut the votes of BJP support base in rural area. The BJP, to compensate vote loss in rural areas, is putting extra focus in urban areas, which is said to be the traditional BJP vote bank. Apart from CM's padyatra on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too will carry out a road show in State capital on April 23 garnering support for BJP candidate Sanjay Seth.
