BJP engaging in vendetta politics: Pritam

Tuesday, 27 August 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

Enraged by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pursuing the sting CD case against former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the state unit of Congress party has  blamed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in politics of vendetta. Addressing media persons at Rajiv Bhawan on Monday, the headquarters of State Congress, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh said that the union government is using the agencies like the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax to harass the leaders of opposition parties. He said that the proceedings in corruption and other cases against the opposition leaders are put on back burner as soon as they join BJP. “It happened in the case of Narayan Rane and Hemant Biswa Sharma. Similarly Mukul Roy was hunted by agencies in the Sharda Chit fund scam and when he joined BJP, everything was pushed under carpet,’’ he said. The PCC President added that former Chief Minister Harish Rawat is being unduly harassed by the government. He added that if CBI is investigating Harish Rawat for an alleged sting CD then similar investigation should be ordered against incumbent CM of Uttarakhand.

Former PCC President Kishore Upadhyaya said that the Congress workers are specially targeted by the state government and cases are slapped against them whenever they raise issues of public importance and question the role of government. He warned that the Congress party would retaliate by organising protests if the vindictive attitude of the state government against Congress workers and leaders continues.

The deputy leader of Congress party in state assembly Karan Mahra said that same yardstick should be applied against Congress and BJP leaders. He claimed that when the same person who releases sting of Congress Chief Minister, the BJP leaders offer protection to him and when this person conducts sting of those close to incumbent CM, he is thrown into the jail. Mahra claimed that in the sting CD of Harish Rawat no exchange of money or talks relating to it figured but in the sting CD of OSD of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat such things figured but no action till date had been taken.

Former MLA, Rajkumar, spokesperson of state Congress party R P Raturi, Garima Dassauni and Prabhu Lal Bahuguna were present on the occasion.
