BJP MLA apologises for remarks on Mayawati

Monday, 21 January 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

After triggering a political storm with her derogatory remark against Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Sadhana Singh tendered an unconditional apology, saying she did not intend to hurt anyone.

However, BSP local leaders lodged a complaint against the BJP MLA from Mughalsarai in this regard.

Sadhana Singh had on Saturday accused Mayawati of compromising her dignity for power.

“This statement is against women and entire Dalit community. Sadhana Singh, who belongs to upper caste, has wilfully used those words against the BSP chief and a case should be filed against her,” BSP chief zonal head (Varanasi) Ram Chander Gautam said in his police complaint.

As her comment boomeranged into a political issue, Sadhana Singh issued a written unconditional apology, saying she did not intend to hurt anyone and if her words had hurt the sentiments of a section of society, she was really sorry.

Addressing a rally in Chandauli on Saturday, Sadhana had said: “I don’t think the former CM of UP is a woman or a man. She does not understand the concept of dignity. Draupadi was a victim of sexual misconduct. She vowed to take revenge. She was a self-respecting woman. Look at this woman, everything was looted from her, but despite that, she sold all her dignity to get power.”

Pankaj Singh, son of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP MLA from Noida, was also present at the event.

The BSP immediately reacted on the reported statement of the BJP MLA, saying such remarks showed the mental level of BJP and the party was frustrated with the Bahujan Samaj Party-Samajwadi Party alliance for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh.

BSP general secretary and MP Satish Chandra Mishra on Sunday said that the  remark of Sadhana Singh showed the level of BJP.

Alleging that the BJP leaders had lost their mental balance after the announcement of BSP-SP alliance, he said they should be admitted to mental hospitals in Agra and Bareilly.
