BJP planned to demolish unauthorised colonies: CM

Thursday, 09 May 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed that the BJP Government has planned to demolish all the unauthorised colonies in the national Capital on a large scale. The BJP will give the land to big builders and rich people who would then construct luxurious apartments on it.

Kejriwal said, "About 70 per cent of the city's population resides in unauthorised colonies, where will they go? We have been pressured by the Centre not to invest money in unauthorised colonies and we have also been told by Government officials that the BJP is planning to demolish all unauthorised colonies once it comes to power," he said.

He said recently addressing a public meeting, BJP president Manoj Tiwari has accepted that Modi government has plans to demolish these colonies and develop multistory buildings. "Tiwari also accepted that a flat would be given in such building to those living there," he alleged," adding that with this 70 per cent of Delhi would be demolished by the Modi Government."We have been developing basic amenities in these colonies like laying sewer and water lines developing roads among other works," he said.

Kejriwal also claimed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are not going to places like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where their party is in a direct fight with the BJP but "wasting" their time campaigning in the national capital.

Priyanka Gandhi has started campaigning for Congress candidates in Delhi from Wednesday by holding roadshows in North East and South Delhi constituencies.

"She (Priyanka) is doing rallies in Uttar Pradesh against SP-BSP; she is doing rallies in Delhi against the AAP. Both the brother and sister are not going to those places where there's direct fight with the BJP," he said.

He also alleged that Prime Minister Modi has destroyed livelihood of traders in Delhi through sealing that left people unemployed. "Sealing was done to promote multinational company," he said.

The AAP leader also posed three question hours before Prime Minister's scheduled rally in Delhi. The first question is why he sealed shops in Delhi? What happened to the promise he made in last election about giving Delhi full statehood? And third question is what kind of relation he enjoys with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan? Delhi goes to polls on Sunday. The results would be announced on May 23.

Later in the day, Kejriwal and actor-politician Prakash Raj on Wednesday held a roadshow in support of the AAP candidate BS Jakhar from West Delhi and asked people to vote for the party in Lok Sabha polls. Addressing a public gathering in Nasirpur area of West Delhi, the Chief Minister urged people to vote for the party by pressing the 'jhadu' button.

Prakash Raj asked people to vote for the AAP as it is the "only party that talks about real issues and has proved its mettle in the education and health sectors".

Meanwhile, party's West Delhi candidate launched West Delhi constituency specific manifesto with promise to regularise the unauthorised colonies, construction of super specialty hospitals and multi-level parking. Releasing the manifesto, Jakhar said, his prime focus after becoming MP will be to raise voice in the parliament for Delhi's full statehood.
