Tuesday, 25 June 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

The BJP, after thumping victory in Lok Sabha elections, has decided to concentrate on strengthening the organisation in States where it is not in power. The Saffron party, in this connection, has decided to once again start membership drive from July 6 to 11. The membership drive will run across the country with respective State units being given new targets.  In Jharkhand, the party has pegged a target to make 22.45 lakh new members.  The party already has 25 lakh members in State.

BJP national vice president and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said, “We have to strengthen the party in those States where the party is not in power. We have to give special focus in those Lok Sabha segments, Assembly segments where BJP is weak.”

“The party focus is to enroll members from all communities SCs/STs, minorities, traders, lawyers, farmers and all section. As the BJP believes in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the party through its membership drive is focused to make membership from all communities,” added Chouhan who is also the chief of party’s membership drive.

The membership drive will commence on July 6 coinciding with birth anniversary of Jan Sangh’s founder and RSS ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

From July 7 to 9, the party will run special membership drive in which BJP leaders and cadres will put up stalls at markets, near bus stand, railway stations, offices for making new members.

A meeting of BJP leaders was held at BJP headquarter which was attended by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, BJP membership in-charge chief Chouhan, MLAs and party leaders. At the meeting the chiefs of different Morcha and Manch (cells) were given target to make new members.

Chouhan said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah the party strength has gone up with saffron forming government at centre for second consecutive term, but still the party has to reach at its peak.” The party has to make governments at Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and other states where BJP has never formed the government.

Attacking the Congress and Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), the BJP leaders claimed that Congress and Mahagathbandhan are directionless.

He said, “The Condition of Congress is like sinking ship, but in ship the captain is last person to jump to sea, but in Congress Rahul Gandhi who is captain of ship is first to jump to sea.”

The BJP leader also attacked Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) claiming that the alliance of Mahagathbandhan parties was opportunist and compulsive alliance.

He cited the example of Bua and Babau (Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav) where the two parties have started targeting each other for SP/BSP debacle in LS election.
