Patients getting treatment at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here are facing problems due to shortage of blood in its Blood Bank.
According to information, the premier hospital is running shortage of blood for the last three days.
While some patients like thalassemia need blood regularly, the shortage in the premier hospital has worried them and their relatives. Some patients have been forced to be expensive by moving to Bhubaneswar or Visakhapatnam to avail blood.
The increase in demand and the decrease in collection have led to the shortage of blood. While 3,000 units of blood were collected from 25 blood donation camps held in February, only 723 units of blood collected in March through 14 camps. In April, not a big blood donation camp has been organised by now and there is no such plan in coming days. As a result, the blood shortage is expected to be acute in coming days.
Under this situation, some voluntary organisations have come forward to hold blood donation camps.
