In an apparent case of honour killing, the bodies of a couple were found hanging from a roadside tree in the Nayagaon area of Etah district, police sources said on Tuesday. According to sources, the bodies of the couple were found hanging from a tree in a mango orchard. While the girl reportedly hails from the Ladpur Katara village of the Nayagaon area, the youth has been identified as Satya Prakash, a resident of Kayampur Nandpur Belamai village of the Sakit area. The couple was having a love affair. Sources said that the Aadhaar card found from the youth’s pocket led to his identification. Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and after taking down the bodies, they were sent for the post-mortem. Further investigation was underway.

In one more incident in Shamli, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by two men, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in Khandrauli village under Kandhla police station area on Monday. The minor was found lying unconscious in a field, they said. A case has been registered against two men, identified as Suhail and Soman. They are absconding and efforts are underway to nab them, Station house officer SK Vishnoi said.

According to a complaint lodged by the girl’s father, she was abducted from outside her house and raped by the two accused in a nearby field. The minor has been sent for a medical examination, the police said. Security has been tightened in the village and additional police personnel have been deployed as a precautionary measure, they said.

In one more case in Pratapgarh, a 12-year-old girl was found dead outside her house, following which four neighbours were booked in connection with the case. Lalganj circle officer Ramesh Chandra said the girl had gone to a pond on Monday to keep an eye on the family’s fishes, but in the evening her body was found outside the house. Following a complaint by her father, a case was registered against four neighbours, including Basantlal in Sangipur police station at night. The police suspect that it was a fallout of an old enmity between the victim’s family and those arrested.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed while her husband critically injured when an explosion occurred in a house in Phaphund area of Auraiya on Tuesday.

Police said that the explosion occurred at the house of Munna Mansoori aka Gappu in the Mewatiyan locality of the Phapund town at around 9 am due to which his house crumbled. The roof of the house collapsed as a result of which Munna’s wife Najima Begum (40) died after she was crushed under the debris. Munna was seriously injured in the accident and his family admitted him to a private hospital for treatment.

According to police, Munna makes fireworks and he possesses a licence for the same. He used to make fireworks with gun powder at his home itself due to which these materials used to be kept at his house. On Tuesday, the gas cylinder caught fire while food was being prepared and in an attempt to put out the same, the fire reached the gun powder. As soon as the fire came in contact with the gun powder, the whole construction came down with a loud explosion.

Two dead goats were also found under the debris. The explosion was so powerful that  neighbouring houses also shuddered due to its effect. Additional superintendent of police Kamlesh Dixit, SDM Anupam Shukla, circle officer (CO) Kamlesh Narayan Pandey and the police force of several outposts reached the spot. Police were investigating the causes behind the explosion.
