After the historic judgement of the Supreme Court (SC) in the Ramjanmabhoomi case, the education department of Uttarakhand is hoping that the highest court would start hearing in the guest faculty case of the State. The important case was listed in the court of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi for hearing but as he was busy with the Ramjanmabhoomi case, the case of guest teachers was pending for long. It is pertinent to mention here that a constitutional bench of SC consisting of five judges headed by CJI was engaged in a day to day hearing of the politically sensitive Ramjanambhoomi- Babri Masjid land dispute case. Now with judgement in the Ramjanmabhoomi case delivered, the chances guest teachers case coming up for hearing are high.
One senior officer of the department informed that efforts have started to get the guest teachers case listed for hearing in the SC.
The Uttarakhand Government is hoping that the SC would give it a go ahead for the recruitment of Guest teachers till the permanent teachers are appointed on thousands of vacant posts of Lecturers and Lecturer Teachers (LT).
More than 5,000 posts of LT and Lecturers are at present lying vacant in the Government schools of the state creating problem for the students. As the process of permanent appointments is time consuming, the state cabinet decided to fill these posts by guest faculty as an immediate though temporary measure to provide teachers in schools. However, some of the Guest teachers appointed earlier challenged the new drive in the SC which issued a stay on the appointment of Guest teachers on January 4, 2019. The issue is pending before the SC since then. The education department is now hoping that their case would come up for hearing soon.
