Chhattisgarh government has extended the boundary of Bilaspur municipal corporation.
With civic bodies election in offing, the move of Congress-led state government to extend the boundary of the Municipal Corporation, Bilaspur is seen as a political masterstroke in the Bilaspur region as political career of many leaders will now be in jeopardy, with the merger of civic bodies.
Government under section 405(1) of Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act, 1956 (No.23 of 1956), has issued the gazette notification to extend the boundary of Municipal Corporation, Bilaspur. It has included Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat, Gram Panchayat and Gram (village) for extension of the boundary.
As per the notification, Municipal Council Tifra, Nagar Panchayat Sirgitti, Nagar Panchayat Sakri, Gram Panchayats of Mangla, Uslapur, Ameri, Ghuru, Parsada, Domuhani, Devrikhurd, Mopka, Chilhati, Lingiadhi, Bijaur, Bahatarai, Khamtarai, Koni and Birkona are included within the extended boundary of the corporation.
As per reports, the objections and claims were called before the issuance of notification. More than 1000 objections were received. After clearing all the objections, the notification was issued.
On the issue, BJP leaders were also in two sides, former minister and MLA from Bilaspur Amar Agrawal, did not raise any objection to it but, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, BJP MLAs Dr Krishnamurthy Bandhi, Rajnish Singh and Women Commission's former chairperson Harshita Pandey had raised the objection and staged protest with the villagers included in the limits.
