A Hindi play ‘Aala Afsar’ was staged at Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday. A 45 year old play written by Mudra Rakshas, the play is still connecting with contemporary times.
Aala Afsar was directed by Sushrut Gupta and was performed by the artists of Children’s Theatre Academy. The play was performed after a theatre workshop.
Aala Afsar is one of the famous farces written by the eminent playwright Mudrarakshas. It sets an example in this genre and gained immense popularity on stage.
In this play, it is shown that corrupt people fall into their own trap and the core administrative system remains unchanged. The common men every now and then get a chance to witness the nasty game of corruption played by politicians, bureaucrats, and Government officials.
The play begins with a letter. The letter is written to the chairman of Chitpur by his friend telling him that a high rank officer will soon come to the village for a checking. At that time a young man stays at the hotel and rumour spreads that the officer is in Chitpur already.
After that a series of events and incidents happen showcasing the corrupt mentality of people in society.
This farcical drama exhibits corruption and the exploitation of the poor. In order to give it a contemporary social perspective, the group has taken the liberty to introduce issues of "Black money and Demonetisation" in a very subtle way.
