18 held while consuming liquor at public place
Chandigarh: In continuation of a special drive against consuming liquor at public place, the Chandigarh Police carried out a drive in different parts of the city. Under this drive, total of 18 different cases under Section 68-1(B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 IPC were registered on Saturday in different police stations of Chandigarh. 18 persons were arrested while consuming liquor at public places. All were later on bailed out. This drive will be continuing in future, the general public is requested for not breaking the law, a spokesman said.
Colloquiumon pollution & health risk
Chandigarh: The PGIMER Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, in collaboration with Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, conducted industrial colloquium on “Pollution & Health Risks Due to Cement Industry: Developing Roadmap for Mitigation Strategies” concluded her. The focus of colloquium was to involve cement industries in pollution abatement as they are considered to be top polluting industries in terms of emission of dust and gaseous pollutants. The colloquium was attended by over 20 occupational practitioner, environmentalist, academician, and other stakeholders including ACC Gagal Cement Plant, Ambuja cement industry and UltraTech Cement industry.
PUCA delegation meets Anurag Thakur
Mohali: A delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) under the leadership of president Anshu Kataria, met Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs at New Delhi. Kataria made Anurag Thakur aware about the financial problems being faced by the small Unaided Colleges of the country. If the pending scholarship would not be disbursed then the colleges would be in biggest ever financial trouble and would not be able to survive. The government is not looking at the problems being faced by these institutes as a result of which these are at the verge of closure, he said while adding that this sector requires fresh impetus of reforms.
Demonstration held
Chandigarh: On a call given by the Federation of Indian Bank Employees Unions, the members of Indian Bank Employees Union (north zone) held a demonstration in front of zonal office of Indian Bank, Sector-12, Karnal demanding need based recruitment of peons and clerks, absorption of casual workers as regular employees, payment of salary to casual workers according to pay scales mentioned in the bipartite settlement, payment of bonus to casual workers or employees as per Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, compassionate ground appointments to the wards deceased employees of the bank, release of special assistant list for the last two years.
GI emergency update concludes
Chandigarh: The third PGIMER GI emergency update concluded on September 21. Prof Rakesh Kochhar, Head of the Department of gastroenterology at PGIMER, gave an enlightening talk on management of patients with accidental corrosive intake. He emphasized the role of risk reduction measures including labelling corrosive agents and keeping them out of the possible reach of the children in homes. A series of inspirational talks were given by doctors who were all experts in their respective fields. They encouraged the young doctors to focus their energy on various aspects of professional life, including research, skill development.
