Jumbo calf found dead in Deogarh

Saturday, 28 December 2019 | PNS | DEOGARH

Forest officials recovered a carcass of an elephant calf at Bardanali village under Palasama block in Deogarh district on Thursday.

Locals had found the calf’s body lying at a garden behind the house of one Babuli Garnayak at the village in the morning and informed the Forest Department about it. Forest officials of the Reamal Range reached the site and recovered the carcas.

Reports said the elephant calf was aged about three years. One of its tusks was broken. The forest officials assumed that the calf might have died following a battle with a tusker. However, the prima facie evidence did not indicate any tussle at the site.

The exact reason of death of the baby elephant could be ascertained following an autopsy, said Deogarh DFO Khyama Sarangi.
