After Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, her political rival, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, too has declared not to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
Vijayvargiya tweeted, “The public of West Bengal arestanding with Modiji. So, my stay at W Bengal is imperative. That is why,I have decided not to contest poll.â€
In another tweet, the former MP Minister urging his supporters to make anyone named by the party victorious and pleaded to voters to help NDA register a win for a strong PM in Narendra Modi and a strong Government.
After Sumitra Mahajan had declined to contest Lok Sabha poll, it was believed that Vijayvargiya could be the party nominee. However, those close to him had claimed that with the crucial responsibility of W Bengal on his shoulders, it was highly unlikely that Vijayvargiya would contest lok sabha poll.
Besides, Mahajan too had reached New Delhi on Sunday to meet party seniors and it was speculated that she would not agree on Vijayvargiya’s name and has suggested her own choices before the party high command. Vijayvargiya who had lobbied hard for his son Akash for assembly ticket last year was made to sacrifice his own ticket from Mhow.
The Congress party has named senior leader Pankaj Sanghvi from Indore while the BJP is expected to name its choice perhaps on Wednesday. Mayor Malini Gaud is now the front runner in the race for the ticket in Indore.
