MAD embarks on yet another cleanliness drive in Rispana

Tuesday, 03 December 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

Doon based group of student activists, Making A Difference By Being The Difference (MAD) convened yet another cleanliness drive and awareness campaign on the Rispana riverbed on both Sunday and Monday.

The activities saw enthusiastic participation from over five dozen volunteers.

As a start, a small portion of the riverbed was identified. Purposely, the place chosen for the first set of activities was one which was most dirty, polythene clad and looked beyond redemption.

Several group of students worked on several such patches of the Rispana river and the activities concluded only when the marked patched had been completely transformed with no garbage or polythene remaining on it.

In addition to the cleanup drive, an extensive awareness campaign was undertaken wherein volunteers from MAD divided themselves into different teams and went to different areas educating people about the ills of improper garbage disposal and the harm that is caused if Rispana river is polluted to this extent.

Citizens were informed that the wildlife of the Rajaji national park as well as the local ecology of Doon valley is greatly hampered by such open pollution in the Rispana river.

The volunteers said that the drive concluded not just with a success story of having completely transformed few stretches of the Rispana River near Ajabpur, but also with the renewed vigour that MAD will continue to embark on such campaigns to completely cleanup the River, slowly, step by step- but surely.
