Modi, Shah rallies failed to swing voters in State

Wednesday, 25 December 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

The results of recently concluded Jharkhand Assembly elections suggest that the star campaigners of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) - Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and their aggressive campaigning in the different parts of the State did not work in the party’s favour. The two senior leaders of the party addressed as many as 18 rallies across the State.

The Assembly elections 2019 were conducted in five phases in the State staring on November 30 and concluding on December 20.

In the first phase, Modi addressed two public gatherings in Daltonganj and Gumla. While BJP candidate Alok Kumar Chaurasiya from Daltonganj defeated its counterpart, MIshir Kujur from the constituency of Gumla lost the poll.

Two rallies were held by the PM in Khunti and Jamshedpur in the second phase. The BJP contender Nilkanth Singh Munda managed to secure a seat for the party from Khunti. However, the party lost both Jamshedpur Eat and West, which it had won in the previous elections. Jamshedpur East has been the constituency of former Chief Minister Raghubar Das since 1995 while from Jamshedpur West Devendra Nath Singh was the party’s contender.

BJP’s Manoj Kumar Yadav lost from Barhi while Biranchi Narayan has won a seat from his constituency of Bokaro where the PM had addressed a rally in the third phase of the elections.

Before the fourth phase went to polls, the PM held a campaign rally in Dhanbad and here Raj Sinha, the party’s candidate managed to secure an assembly seat from this constituency.

In the fifth phase, BJP candidate from Dumka and former State Cabinet minister Louis Marandi lost to JMM leader Hemant Soren, who is set to be the next CM.

BJP National President Amit Shah campaigned in Manika and Lohardaga in the first phase. However, the party failed to secure any of the two seats.

In the second phase too, despite the Home Minister campaigning both in Chakradharpur and Bahragora, the party candidates Laxman Gilua and Kunal Sarangi respectively had to face defeat.

In the fourth phase, Shah held rallies in Giridih, Deoghar and Baghmara. While the party won Deoghar and Baghmara seats, it lost its seat in Giridih.
