The State Government is claiming a lot of development, but the residents of five villages, including school students and patients, under Kutra block in Sundargarh district have been going through knee-deep water in a stream in rainy season due to non availability of a bridge.
A stream flows near Jhirpani Majapada under Kiringsera panchayat. In rainy season, floodwater comes in the stream and the water level goes upto knee level. Not only the villagers of Jhirpani Majhapada but also the villagers of Nuagaon, Kadopani , Rangamati and Badulpani, have been facing difficulties due to non availability of bridge on the stream. The children of these five villages who go to Kiringsera school and Gotipada Anganwadi Centre, for studying, have to wade through this stream by taking their bi-cycle on shoulder . There is a primary school in village at Jhirpani Majhapada which has from class I to class V but in other side of village, there is Kiringsera High School and one Anganwadi centre at Gaudtiapada.
Most of the students do not go to their school and Anganwadi centre when the stream is in spate. About 1,000 people of these five villages have been facing difficulties in rainy season due to non availability of bridge.
As per the villagers, during the year 1998, ITDA of the State Government at that time had ordered for construction of a bridge at Jhirpani Majhapada. Sand, metal and other materials for constructing the bridge had been dumped but at later stage, the bridge was not constructed, the villagers have alleged.
"We have been facing difficulties due to non availability of bridge there and we have been demanding a bridge on the stream since long but our demand is ignored," said Bipin, a resident of Jhirpani Majhapada .
Critically ill patients also go by bed with the support of other persons in waist high water level to Kutra hospital. Before the 2019 general elections, the villagers of Jhirpani Majhapada village had also threatened not to cast their vote because of non availability of bridge there and Kutra block officials including BDO at that time had promised to construct a bridge.
Later, the villagers had cast their vote but the bridge still remains a daydream.
"The bridge is very much required there and the people of these villages have been demanding for bridge," said BDO, Kutra block MR Ray, adding, "I had recently attended panchayat samitee meeting and it has been decided that the Rural Development department would construct a bridge and the fund for construction of bridge would be provided from District Mineral Foundation funds. The survey work for bridge has already been started."
