Omkareshwar gets holy city tag from Govt

Omkareshwar has been declared a holy city by the government. In view of the needs and amenities for pilgrims in this city, a format of Omkareshwar Vikas Yojna-2031 (Master-Plan) has been prepared on GIS. Objections / suggestions regarding the scheme can be made at the District Office, Khandwa and Directorate Town and country planning, Bhopal as well as online on the website dtep.mp.gov.in/publicviewer.

Director, Town and country planning Rahul Jain has informed that Remote Sensing Technology, Geographical Information System and standards of AMRUT scheme have been used to make the master-plan. The assistance of scientists of National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology has also been taken in this work.

The master-plan has provisions to preserve all sensitive areas of Omkareshwar. Along with the development of Ghats on both sides of the Narmada River, provision has been made for intensive plantation. Construction of all types of physical and social infrastructure along with residential, commercial and urban uses by the year 2031 has also been proposed, to ensure planned development of the religious city. The format of the Omkareshwar Vikas Yojana has been published in the Gazette of October 1, 2019 and on the website www.mptownplan.gov.in. For the first time in the state, the data used in preparing the development plan has also been displayed on the website dtep.mp.gov.in/publicviewer. Along with this, arrangements have been made to get objections / suggestions online. A soft copy of the development plan can be obtained from the District Office, Khandwa on payment. Development plan booklet will not be printed separately.
