The inhuman face of Uttar Pradesh Police was once again exposed in Baghpat when during a raid to arrest a wanted accused, the cops brutally assaulted the female members of his family, leaving a woman dead and two others critically injured on Wednesday morning.

Angered by the police conduct, the local residents staged a demonstration to protest the police excesses and demanded registration of a case and action against the guilty cops.

Additional superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, who reached the spot along with a heavy police force, confirmed that the police raided the place to arrest an accused but denied that anyone was assaulted during the process.

As per reports, half-a-dozen policemen from Baghpat raided a house in Tanda hamlet of Chaprauli to arrest Naushad, who is wanted in connection with a crime, on Wednesday morning.

However, after failing to locate Naushad, the cops tried to enquire about his whereabouts from his family members. When they expressed ignorance, the cops brutally assaulted the female family members present, even hitting them with rifle butts. Three women were critically injured in the attack.

The victims were rescued by the villagers and taken to the district hospital where Naushad’s injured mother was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The news of the woman’s death spread like wildfire and soon hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot and staged a demonstration, demanding action against the guilty cops.

The protest continued till late Wednesday evening.

Senior officers claimed that the public was assured of a fair probe and punishment to the guilty if the cops were found to have used force on the women but the public refused to remove the blockade.

Meanwhile, in Deoria, the bodies of a woman and her two children were found on the railway tracks near Bhatpar Rani station on Tuesday night. The bodies were spotted by villagers who informed the police about them.

The woman was around 35 years of age while the children were aged 12 and 6 years respectively. Another four-year-old girl was also injured in the incident.

Efforts are on to identify the bodies. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide and investigation is underway.
