While in the lower atmosphere of the earth, ozone is considered as bad pollutant and rated as secondary, the ozone level in different part of the city was recorded abnormally high. Areas such as Civil Lines, IGI Airport, Vivek Vihar, Bawana and Anand Vihar were found with higher ozone level.
As per the pollution data of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the ozone levels are fluctuating between 44-180 micro cubic per gram. Bad ozone in atmosphere formed when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, chemical plants, and other sources react chemically in the presence of sunlight. Ozone at ground level is a harmful air pollutant.
According DPCC findings, different areas in Delhi for instance Anand Vihar, Viavek Vihar , Bawana , Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and Civil Lines were the areas where ozone pollutant was recorded quite high.
It is pertinent to mention here that bad ozone formulates in atmosphere when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants , industrial boilers , refineries , chemical plants , and other sources react chemically in the presence of sunlight. Ozone at ground level is a harmful air pollutant.
As per the Air quality Index (AQI), City's Civil Lines and Wazirabad is worst areas in terms of having bad ozone in large amount. AQI readings of both pollutants were - 153Microcubic per Gram and 144 respectively.
In Patparganj, Vivek Vihar, Nehru Nagar , the values were recorded relatively higher.
Environmental scientists and observers say that air pollutants under the prescribed limit also pose hazards to human and ecosystem, although above mentioned areas recorded high values of bad ozone, there were other areas in Delhi , where the secondary pollutant was recorded marginally low; these areas were-Major Dyanchand Stadium , Dwarka Sector -8, Shri Aurbindo Marg and Karni Stadium and Mundka, Punjbai Bagg and Jahangirpuri. Notably the ozone values for Rohini was not mentioned at AQI, the report stated.
