International level para-badminton player from Ernakulam in Kerala, 32-year old Neeraj George scaled the highest peak overlooking Nainital city. He succeeded in climbing the 2,611 metres high Naina peak.
It should be mentioned here that George has only one leg. However, he did not allow the handicap to come in his way and went ahead on his trip to scale the highest peak in town. He used crutches to scale the peak in a little over one hour. This is not the first mountain the differently abled sportsman has scaled. In the past he has climbed mountain peaks in Munnar and Tamil Nadu too.
Here in Nainital, while traversing the rocky route full of twists and turns to reach the summit of Naina peak, George was accompanied by local youths Bikram Bisht, Aman Janota, Harshit Bisht, Paras and others. However, George scaled the mountain on his own without taking the help of any of the youths accompanying him.
His left leg had to be amputated because of a bone tumour when George was in school. However, he did not give up and while in college, developed a passion for trekking and climbing mountains.
In the past he has trekked from Munnar to Kodaikkanal and to Kurungini mountain in Bodinaikkannur, Tamil Nadu. He is also the first player from Kerala to win a medal in an international-level badminton championship for the differently abled.
