In the case of a 15 year old girl found dead in the jungle at Lalkuan, the local police have arrested the paternal uncle of the deceased. Her body was found by local villagers in the Tanda forest range at 6 AM in Lalkuan area of Nainital district on Wednesday. The accused Kashiram has confessed to his crime and was presented in the court on Friday from where he has been sent to jail.

According to the information provided by the local police, brother of the deceased minor filed a written complaint in Lalkuan police station stating that he suspects his paternal uncle Kashiram of murdering his sister. The complainant and neighbours told the police that Kashiram used to beat the minor as he suspected her activities. After getting forensic report and collecting evidence, the police interrogated accused Kashiram who confessed to his crime.

During the interrogation accused Kashiram said that he came Lalkuan about 12 years ago and is a driver by profession. He has three kids. He said that his wife was pregnant because of which he asked his niece to come and help his wife out with household chores. On August 6, his wife gave birth to a girl who died soon after she was born.

About his niece, he alleged that he suspected her “character” and that she did understand despite repeated warnings. On the night of August 13, he saw her going out in the middle of night and followed her. She was going towards the woods with some boy. He said that he was not able to see the boy but when he confronted her she did not give him proper answers.

Fearing his reputation would be affected, in a fit of rage he strangled her to death using her dupatta and threw her slippers and bangles in the bushes nearby.
