Police seize cash worth Rs 39.20L

nKawardha police on Friday, during checking of paddy transportation along state border with Madhya Pradesh seized cash worth Rs 39.20 lakh from a vehicle.

The seizure assumes significance as it has come ahead of the municipal polls in the state which is going to be held on December 21.

The car driver who failed to answer properly about the amount in his possession has been taken into custody for further questioning.

Talking to media, Kawardha Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh termed it as big success of the police.

The police action was taken while checking for vehicles transporting     illegal paddy from       neighbouring state, he informed. Near Chilphi valley, the checking team witnessed a car      arriving from Mandla (Madhya Pradesh) and    during the checking they recovered the cash. The driver named Ashish Sahu has been taken into custody, the official informed.

According to accused he was coming from Sagar (Madhya Pradesh). Police are interrogating him for further information     regarding the source of money and to whom it was to be delivered.
