Ranchiites gear up to vote for safety, infrastructure

Saturday, 30 November 2019 | Divya Modi | Ranchi

While safety tops the list of expectations from the next Government among voters in Ranchi, they also expect the government to work in the education sector. Solution to the regular traffic snarls across the City, reduced prices, clearer surroundings and equal job opportunities are the other major demands of the residents here.

With the State capital gearing up to vote in the Assembly elections 2019 on December 12, denizens have a lot of hopes and expectations from the Government which will come to power for the next five years. The Capital city has a total of over 17.5 Lakh voters. Out of these about 9 Lakh are male, 8.4 Lakh are female while 65 are transgender voters.

The public has had enough of fake promises and the new Government is bound to work with honesty and transparency. The Government projects should also be audited at regular intervals. If the Government is so honest, the public is entitled to know where the funds received from The World Bank have been utilised. It is only years later that the scandals come in the public’s eye.

Being a student, the Government should have some student-friendly policies for education loans. Courses such as MBA are already very expensive and on top of it the forms for a reputed college are also highly charged for. The cost of these admission forms needs to be reduced. Being a part of the development sector, the new government should make proper departments to check the implementations of policies. Numerous policies are made but the execution is not upto the mark.

I used to go for a morning walk regularly but so many incidents of mobile phone and chain snatching were reported in the vicinity, that now I am scared. Women safety is something which should be of utmost importance. Coming from a middle class family, the ever increasing graph of the rising prices needs to come down as well. With increasing urbanisation, immediate measures to protect the environment need to be taken as we don’t want Ranchi to become another city like Delhi.

Immediate action needs to be taken against the increasing crime rate in the City. Women need to feel safe no matter what time of the day to night it is. No one wants to read about incidents like the recent gang rape. Another point that needs to be worked on is the traffic. My six year old daughter has her school in the other end of town and even though with the GPS tracking system, her bus usually gets stuck in traffic every single day.

Geetanjali Hirani

Resident of Kanke Road

Not just the main roads of Ranchi but the inner roads and by-lanes also need to be improved. Traffic was never really a problem in Ranchi till some years back but jams have now become a regular feature across the City because of which people end up wasting a lot of time. The general public needs to be trained to follow the traffic rules and not cut across from any side. Ranchi has somehow lost its charm and natural beauty. A proper plan needs to be devised for the beautification of the city and not just high rise building but the city should have breathing space like parks as well.

I feel that fees of private education needs to be controlled. The Government schools too have highly qualified teachers but the security of a Government job has made them lazy because of which these institutions lack an atmosphere which should otherwise be there in a school. The incoming Government needs to instill a sense of fear in such people and make policies in this regard.
