Seth stresses on raising eye donation awareness

The Eye Donation Awareness Club’s half-yearly meeting was held at Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital hall on Wednesday. On the occasion, the Chief Guests of the function was Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and Mayor Asha Lakra and others. The Ranchi MP and Mayor also had a meeting with Eye Donation Awareness Club members office bearers which included club president Anuj Sinha and others. Founder director of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, Dr Bharti Kashyap on the occasion introduced ten eye donars family.

In the meeting, Dr Bharti Kashyap informed that last year the hospital has witnessed 40 cases of eye transplant. This year the hospital has witnessed 24 cases of eye transplant till date. Out of 24 cases of eye transplants, 12 eye transplants has been done after receiving cornea donated by willing eye donars before their death, while in rest 12 cases eye transplants has been done through cornea distribution system. Dr Kashyap claimed that most of the cornea received from eye donation or through cornea distribution system was fit for transplantation.

Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth on the occasion appreciated the work carried out by KMEH in rural and far off areas. The Ranchi MP also assured the hospital of providing all necessary help and assistance in organising eye camp and awareness camp for eye donation. Seth on the occasion also made his displeasure that while on one hand there is long queue of people for eye transplant, some eye banks in State fail to carry eye transplant of cornea received through donation.

On the occasion several eye donars shared their experience about eye donation. Mother of Pihu Gupta who had received eye through eye transplant shared her experience with Eye Donation Awareness Club members. Dr Kashyap shared information about 10 donars who donated their eyes. The donars included Chandrika Prasad, Arun Bikash Shukla Das, Shakuntala Devi Budhiya, Kusum Devi Jain, Narendra Kr Jain, Bhagwati Devi Khatore, Kashi Prasad Sarraf, Shakuntala Devi, Ajit Kumar Ojha, Vijay Kumar Jambotkat.

On the occasion, Seth and Mayor Lakra awarded winners of small children of painting competition, which was held at Ursuline Convent.

On the occasion, it was also announced that on September 6, Kashyap Eye Bank, Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital and Eye Donation Awareness Club will organize ‘Run For Vision’ at Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium Khel Gaon, Ranchi. The ‘Run for Vision’ will be flagged off by Governor Droupadi Murmu and will be attended by State Health Minister Ramchander Chandravanshi, State Rural Development Minister Neelkanth Singh Munda, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and others.

On the occasion, city-based diabetologist. Sanjay Kumar Rai and Vinay Kumar Dhandhania will be felicitated by Governor. Various social organizations will be present on the occasion. This year ‘Run for Vision’ is special as this year theme of the Run is theme blind fold. Under the theme blind fold, the participants will run tying clothes in their eyes.
