State BJP sends candidates’ name to CPC

Day after the announcement of first list of its 184 candidates by central high command of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Delhi unit of BJP also sent names of candidates for seven Parliamentarians to the Central Parliament Committee (CPC) under the chairmanship of State Election in — charge  Union Minister Nirmala Sithraman.   

An office bearer and a participant of Election Committee member, said that the mostly members were against on giving the tickets to celebrities, hinting that former Indian cricketer may not be the natural choice to replace sitting Lok Sabha member from the New Delhi parliamentary seat.

BJP circles were agog after the formal entry of Gambhit into BJP’s fold as he could be a formidable candidate to retain the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in 2019 General Elections. 

Party sources said that State Election Committee in which Delhi BJP party President Manoj Tiwari, has also recommended names including former South Delhi Corporation Mayor Kamaljeet Sherawat for West Delhi seat, currently held by Pravesh Verma the son for former Delhi Chief Minister late Sahib Singh Verma.

It would be interesting to mention here that Gambhir is not the only candidate who has thrown his hat into the ring fro, New Delhi constituency, names of sitting MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Shayam Jaju, the National Vice President, BJP and Rajesh Bhatia, General Secretary also figure among the recommended names.   

From East Delhi - names of  Dr  Mahesh Giri, Om Prakash,  former Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay were recommended while from Chandni Chowk — Dr Harsh Vardhan, Sudhanshu Mittal, Vijender Gupta and from West Delhi —Parvesh Verma , Pawan Sharma, former mayor Shehrawat have been sent to party high command.

From South Delhi — former MLAs from Badarpur seat Ramvir Singh Bhiduri, current MP Ramesh Bhiduri and Braham Singh Tanwar, Former member of Delhi legislative assembly are the contenders. 

From North East constituency,  names of actor turned politician Manoj Tiwari,  and Mohan Singh Bisht, have been recommended. 

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal over his controversial tweet that depicted his party symbol, a broom chasing a Hindu swastika, saying it is a violation of the model code of conduct and aims at disrupting communal harmony.

The AAP should be invalidated and strict action should be taken against it for attempts to incite communal tension, Gupta said.

The tweet, posted late night on March 20, triggered an uproar on the social media, with the Twitterati slamming the Delhi chief minister for his post, prompting the ruling party to come out with a clarification saying it was not Swastik but the Nazi symbol that the AAP leader had tweeted. It is not only an objectionable tweet aimed at disrupting the communal harmony but also a violation of the model code of conduct.
