Around 1,011 cases of Seasonal Influenza H1N1 have been reported in Delhi so far making the number to be the second highest in the country after Rajasthan, suggested the latest data released by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday.
According to senior official of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), out of the total cases, 895 cases belong to Delhi while the rest have been acquired from other States.
“Around 895 cases belong originally to Delhi while the others are from the other states. As far as deaths are concerned, no confirmed death has come into our knowledge,” she said.
As per the data released by NCDC, no death has been reported in Delhi so far, however, a total of 226 deaths have been reported in the country.
Notwithstanding the data, around 14 deaths have been reported in the National Capital so far including three in Safdarjung Hospital.
“At least 14 deaths have taken place in the national Capital including three in Safdarjung Hospital, 10 in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and one in AIIMS due to the viral disease,” a source said.
A senior doctor at Safdarjung Hospital confirming the data said, “From 1st January to 31st January, around three deaths have been reported at our hospital.”
In the month of January, around 23 cases of H1N1 influenza were reported by the hospital, he said.
According to the senior official DGHS, the deaths which are being reported by the hospitals occur due to other factors and not just because of swine flu only.
“It is not confirmed weather the deaths are happening due to swine flu or due to some other factors. The patients who have died might have some other diseases already and the influenza worsened the condition,” she said. The virus itself is not capable of killing someone, she added.
With this, Delhi has become second largest city to record seasonal influenza H1N1 this year. Last year, only 205 cases of the disease were reported in the Capital.
The highest number of cases this year has been reported by Rajasthan.
Around 2263 cases have been reported in the State. With this, 85 deaths have also been reported, suggested the data released by NCDC.
