Vedanta gets Odisha coalmine

As the highest bidder in the 10th round of the captive coal block auction, the Vedanta company has got the Jamkhani coal block in Sundargarh district.

Significantly, the coalmine is located near in the company’s Jharsuguda aluminium smelter. Its annual capacity is 2.6 million tonnes (MT). The mine possesses an extractable reserve of 114 MT.

Notably, this is the company’s second coalmine after the Chotia coal block in Chhattisgarh having an annual capacity of 1 MT.

The Vedanta authorities are happy that the new development would help the company achieve more self-sufficiency in energy and other sectors.
