Wife prime suspect in Rohit's murder: Police

Tuesday, 23 April 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Police is on the verge of cracking the mystery behind the murder of  Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, the son of Congress stalwart ND Tiwari. Rohit was allegedly smothered to death. Investigations carried so far, have revealed that Rohit’s estranged wife Apoorva was behind the murder. Sources said she was likely to be arrested by tonight or Tuesday as all evidence gathered  by the police point towards her involvement in the murder.

The sources said forensic experts from the AIIMS also visited the home of Tiwari in Defence Colony where they recreated the crime sequence and opined that no signs were found which showed that Rohit had resisted while he was smothered.

On Monday Apoorva, along with her servant and maid, were again taken by police for questioning. Sources said she is likely to be placed under arrest. She was also questioned on Sunday and was also grilled for eight hours on Saturday. Police sources said there are seven CCTV cameras — of which two don’t work — in Rohit’s house.

“Rohit had gone to Uttarakhand to vote on April 12 and returned on the night of April 15. He could be seen on CCTV taking support of the wall while walking in an inebriated state. No one has come and gone out of the home at the time Rohit was smothered,” police said.

Rohit i’s mother Ujjwala on Sunday has alleged that her daughter-in-law Apoorva and her family were money minded people. She claimed that she would make more revelations in the near future.

“Apoorva always had issues with Rajiv and Kumkum. Rajiv is my relative and has served to our family since long. He was also OSD to ND Tiwari,” said Ujjwala.

She further claimed that let the time come, I will do major revelations and denied that reports of Rohit having affair with Kumkum is baseless and false. It was also alleged that, Apoorva got furious when Rohit took Rajiv and Kumkum, along with them to Uttrakhand.

“Apoorva’s family wanted to take control of the properties of my both sons, Siddharth and Rohit because this house is near to Supreme Court where Apoorva is practising law,” said Ujjwala adding Apoorva was disappointed and expressed her displeasure over the fact that my elder son Siddharth wanted to give Rajiv’s son, Karthik, a share in the property.

Rohit first met Apoorva in 2017 through a matrimonial website and tied the knot in a high profile wedding in national capital last year.

According to the FIR, Max Hospital informed police around 6:55 pm on April 16 regarding the death of Rohit, who was admitted to Emergency ward by his wife Apoorva. On the spot, it was revealed that a distant relative Rajiv rushed him to the hospital.

It was also discovered that, a call for ambulance was made at 04.41 pm. While he was being taken to hospital, CPR was given to the victim but he was unconscious and didn’t responded after which following the standard protocol two ECG were conducted and he was finally declared dead.

On April 18, the postmortem report number 488-19 was given to the police wherein the cause of death was unnatural and reason is Asphyxia due to ante mortem strangulation and smothering after which a murder case was registered and case was transferred to Crime branch.
