KJo ridicules party accusations

Filmmaker Karan Johar has broken his silence over allegations of hosting a drug party for a few A-list Bollywood stars at his residence last month.

He feels that all such charges are baseless and ridiculous. It was an easy night out, the filmmaker says, adding that his mother was also appalled reading about it.

“I toyed with the idea of giving out a statement. I toyed with giving out a thought on the social media. There were achieving members of the industry who were having an easy night out after a hard week of work, having a good time. I took that video with all the earnestness,” says Karan.

‘The era of the 90s had a charm of its own where sensuality was portrayed with utmost poise and dignity. Item numbers were made back then and even those were termed as sexy but now we live in an era where sexy means revealing. I feel one does not need to be vulgar to be sensuous, look at the song, Ek do teen, it is also an item number but the lyrics, grace and the way it was shot has a recall value even today.’

—Alka Yagnik

Actress Mahie Gill, who is known for her roles in films such as Dev D, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster and Paan Singh Tomar, says that she has been stereotyped for her sensual beauty for long, and adds that just looking good on-screen is boring.

Mahie returns in the hard-hitting digital film, Posham Pa, where she is cast as a Marathi sex worker. She says, “Looking sexy all the time is boring. I am more than my appearance. I am a dancer. I am a performer.”

‘All about creating balance’

Actor Tom Holland doesn’t feel trapped in his Spider-Man avatar, and says it is all about creating a balance in professional life.

He says, “It is a balance of doing other films while doing some big ones. I did The Devil All the Time, which was shot in Alabama. It is a dark film. I am also doing a film with Russo Brothers later this year called Cherry.”

The actor ensures that he doesn’t get trapped in his onscreen superhero avatar. For him, it is about fitting into schedule of new projects which are very character focused.
