1,467 fresh coronavirus cases in J&K

Friday, 18 September 2020 | PNS | Jammu

Nineteen patients died in Jammu & Kashmir while 1,467 fresh cases of coronavirus were detected taking the tally of active positive cases to over 20,000 on Thursday.

With constant increase in number of cases the health care machinery especially in Government Medical College, Jammu is crumbling.

Patients and their caretakers have been raising hue and cry for past several days as the hospital authorities have failed to ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen to the patients admitted in the isolation ward. In the absence of adequate health care workers several patients have been left unattended in the wards.

A video footage shot by one of the patients attendant went viral late Thursday evening on various social media platforms painting the grim picture of medical facilities. Some of the doctors and other staff members were seen jumping from the windows to avoid getting filmed.

Meanwhile, a high-level team of doctors from the Union Health Ministry is expected to visit Jammu to review the measures being adopted to contain the spread of the virus and improve health care delivery in the Covid hospitals.

According to the media bulletin, a total number of 785  coronavirus cases were detected from Jammu division and 682 from Kashmir division thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 59711.

Also 19 Covid-19 deaths have been reported; 14 from Jammu division and 5 from Kashmir Division.

Moreover, 712 more Covid-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 270 from Jammu Division and 442 from Kashmir Division.

According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Covid-19, out of 59,711 positive cases, 20,239 are Active Positive, 38,521 have recovered and 951 have died; 199 in Jammu division and 752 in Kashmir division.
