Drop in infections, deaths in Maha

Maharashtra witnessed a drop in the number of Covid-19 triggered deaths and infections on Sunday, as 380 people succumbed to Coronavirus and 18,056 people tested positive for the pandemic in various parts of the state.

A day after the state logged as many as 430 deaths and 20,419 infections, the number of deaths dropped by 50 and infected cases came down by 2364 during the last 24 hours.

With 380 fresh deaths, the Covid-19 toll in Maharashtra from 35,191 to 35,571.

Similarly, with 18,056 fresh infections, the total number of infected cases jumped from 13,21,176 to 13,39,232.

With 13565 fresh recoveries, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year  went up to 10,30,015.

Of the total 380 deaths reported on Sunday, Pune accounted for a maximum of 46 deathss, while there were 44 deaths in Mumbai, 34 in Chandrapur, 32 in Thane, 31 in Sangli, 30 in Satara, 24 in Kolhapur, 19 in Nagpur, 12 each in Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri and Nanded and 10 deaths each in Jalgaon and Yavatmal.

In the lower range, there were 8 deaths each in Nashik and Solapur, 7 in Aurangabad, 6 each in Osmanabad and Amravati, 5 in Beed, 4 in Nandurbar, 3 each in Raigad and Gondia, 2 each in Palghar, Dhule, Parbhani and Bhandara and one death each in Sindhudurg, Latur and Wardha. In addition, three persons from outside the state died in Maharashtra.

With 44 deaths, the Covid-19 toll in Mumbai increased from 8,750 to 8,794 while the infected cases shot up by 2,261  to trigger a jump in the total infections from 196,585 to 198,846.

Meanwhile, for the seventh consecutive day, the state recovery rate witnessed a marginal decrease from 76.94 per cent to 76.91 per cent. The mortality rate in the state stood at 2.66 per cent. The number of “active cases” in the state went up from Saturday’s figure of 2,69,119 to 2,73,228.

Pune district with 2,85,534 infected cases continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra.

The number of deaths in Pune increased from 5624 to 5670.

Thane district remained on the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – with 1,82,560 total cases, while the pandemic toll rose from  4721 to 4753.

Out of 65,65,649 samples sent to laboratories, 13,39,232 have tested positive (20.40 per cent) for COVID-19 until Sunday.

Currently, 19,64,644 people are in home quarantine while 30,467 people are in institutional quarantine.
