Allocation of portfolios new headache for MP Govt

Sunday, 05 July 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

After having witnessed the political turmoil during Shivraj Singh Chouhan's cabinet expansion, now allocation of portfolios to newly inducted Ministers seems to have emerged as a fresh headache for BJP Government in the State.

Lengthy and complicated deliberations has taken place ahead of much-hyped cabinet expansion in Madhya Pradesh amid Jyotiraditya Scindia camp mounting pressure for lion’s share in cabinet, while BJP seniors were also left sulking after being denied ministerial berths at the expense of Congress rebels who managed entry into the cabinet. However, after cabinet expansion, it was general perception that the internal upheaval has settled to an extent in BJP.

But delay in allocation of portfolio has suggested that it hasn’t.

Almost three days have passed but there is no indication of portfolio allocation amid reports of Scindia camp exerting pressure yet again for prominent ministries.

Shivraj had no major say in cabinet expansion as was visible in his ministerial choices and with the portfolio allocation getting stuck, it seems, the party high command is required to step in again to mediate.

Sources claim that Scindia camp is seeking most of the prominent departments including School Education, Transport, Tourism, Women and Child Development, Urban Administration, Health, General Administration and others. However, CM Chouhan and his senior party colleagues are also in no mood to let go these prominent ministries so easily.

Two of Scindia loyalists –Tulsiram Silawat and Govind Singh Rajput, already hold key departments, Water Resources and Food and Civil Supplies respectively.

Many claim that in order to avoid any internal tussle, Chouhan has decided to leave the matter to party high command. The Chief Minister is scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Saturday late evening. Besides meeting party seniors, Chouhan is expected to hold meeting with Scindia whom he also met after cabinet expansion in Bhopal.
