Cong targets Govt over health services in city

Sunday, 29 November 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Attacking the AAP Government over the situation of health services in the national Capital amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the Congress on Saturday accused it of thriving only on publicity despite failing to do ground-level work.

Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Congress office, party spokesperson Pawan Khera cited data to claim that in the last five years, the AAP government has failed to open even one new hospital in the city.

"This is a Government which thrives on publicity and advertisement. But the ground reality is exposed at the time of a crisis like the Corona pandemic faced by us," Khera said.

Khera said that the Modi Government was also guilty of misleading the people by selling various types of “packages” instead of checking the fast spread of the Covid pandemic through strong measures at the ground level. He said that the Arvind Government was deriving immense pleasure in personal publicity at the cost of the taxpayer.

“The Delhi Government should have made effective utilization of the budgetary allocation for the health sector to tackle the Covid spread, as it has spent only 25 per cent of the budget allocation, when the need was to strengthen the facilities in hospitals and other areas by taking Covid-specific measures. He recalled that the AAP, in its election manifesto, had promised to add 30,000 beds in hospitals, but only increased 716 beds in the last five years.

Khera said that the Arvind Government has not only failed to create any new infrastructure in the health sector but also failed to properly manage the infrastructure created by the Congress Government.

The Congress leader further said that during this Covid pandemic, there is 31 per cent shortage of doctors, 21 per cent shortage of nurses and paramedical staff. He said that because the Arvind Government has failed to fill these vacancies, it was using the services of those who are in the third and fourth year of their MBBS courses. Instead of adding to the facilities created by the Congress Government, it has only ruined the facilities and infrastructure created by the Congress Government, he said.
