Covid cases in East Singhbhum reach 400

Thursday, 02 July 2020 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The number of Coronavirus positive cases in East Singhbhum district is about to reach 400 marks shortly. The surprise of the cases is that cases are being reported in densely-populated areas like Kadma and adjoining Adityapur localities. These areas were green zones.

A health official said that the number of cases is increasing fast and what is a matter of concern is that the most of the fresh cases are having no travel history. “The total number of Covid-19 positive cases has reached 397 so far in the afternoon. It is expected to cross 400 marks.  As reports of over two dozen swab tests are yet to come, we anticipate the number of the coronavirus positive cases will cross well past 400 by late tonight,” the district official said.

The new area from where Covid-19 cases have been reported in large numbers is Uliyan in densely-populated Kadma, and Aditya Syndicate and Sahara Garden, both residential colonies, in Adityapur area.

According to the district surveillance office, nine persons from five separate families were tested for coronavirus positive at Ulyan in Kadma on Tuesday, leading the district health administration to  set up a containment zone there today.

Sources in the district surveillance office said the nine persons were tested positive after they had come in contact with a middle-aged Covid-19 patient who was later admitted at Tata Main Hospital’s Covid ward.

The Kolhan Division which was under green zone, came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. However, with the arrival of migrants the figure has reached 400 mark. Several other persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They had arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts. All the positive cases have been shifted to Tata Main Hospital Covid wing. The medical team is also distributing pamphlets on the measures to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They are being informed about quarantine measures for those showing symptoms such as cold, cough and fever.
