Former Minister passes away

Former Minister Haraprasad Mahapatra passed away at his residence here on Wednesday. He was 97.

He was suffering from prolonged illness, family sources said.

Mahapatra was elected to the State Assembly twice from the Soro constituency in Baleswar district as a CPI candidate in 1967 and as a Janata Party nominee in 1977.

He was secretary-general of the Orissa Motor Transport Workers’ Union’s Baleswar unit.
