Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday launched yearly monsoon tree plantation drive for clean and green Delhi.
L-G Baijal urged active support and participation of the residents of Delhi to achieve this year’s ambitious plantation target to enhance Delhi’s green cover.
The Delhi Government has set a target of plantation of over 30 lakh tree and shrub saplings have been set in Delhi, including 10 lakh tree plantation by Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
The L-G exhorted that emphasis should be given on planting native, fruit-bearing species, herbs andshrubs.
“Post-plantation care and nurture are necessary to ensure survival for saplings,” Baijal said.
He further stated that trees are vital for the survival of our planet, as they give oxygen, improve air quality, store carbon, preserve soil, support wildlife and give life to our Environment.
Launching the drive, L- G appealed to school children, youngsters and elders, RWAs and non-governmental organisations and all sections of society to come forward, obtain saplings free of cost from nurseries of Forest Department, plant and nurture them for a cleaner and greener Delhi.
“Each of our contributions to saving the environment can go a long way,” he added.
