nChhattisgarh Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat on Monday called for border inspection to stop illegal transportation of paddy into the state.
Saying there should be no inconvenience to farmers during paddy procurement, he also said a team should be formed to inspect and monitor paddy procurement centers across the state.
The Minister was addressing a review meeting of Food Department officials here.
He said the Chhattisgarh government has requested the Centre to provide 3.50 lakh gunny bags to purchase paddy from farmers in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21.
The Centre has informed the Jute Commissioner regarding the supply of 1.43 lakh gunny bags to the state and only 77,000 gunny bags have been received so far, Bhagat said.
Due to the drastic cuts in the supply of gunny bags by the Centre, the state has issued a work order to buy 70,000 new HDPE/PP gunny bags besides 1 lakh gunny bags of PDS system and 2 lakh gunny bags from millers for paddy purchase, he said.
He said about 90 lakh tonnes of paddy is expected to be bought in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21. This requires 4.75 lakh gunny bags.
The meeting was attended by Food Department Secretary Dr Kamal Preet Singh, Cooperative Department Secretary R. Prasanna and other senior officials.
