MP bags 3 gold, 2 silver medals in YAI Senior National Sailing Championship

The sportspersons of Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Sailing Academy performed brilliantly at the YAI Senior National Sailing Championship-2020.

It was organized by the Yachting Association of India in Mumbai, giving Madhya Pradesh three gold and two silver medals. The medal winners met Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia at TT Nagar Stadium on Tuesday.

Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, congratulated the medal-winning players, expressing happiness over the golden success achieved by the academy's players in the Senior National Sailing Championship. She lauded the excellent performance of the players and said that this is the first time since the Corona era when the sports daughters of the Water Sports Sailing Academy showed their talent excellently and made Madhya Pradesh proud by winning medals.

She said that during the transition period it was our endeavour to maintain the morale of our players, be prepared mentally and physically. Constantly discussing with various international technical trainers, psychologists have trained not only the players but also the trainers. This process continues unabated.

At the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Center, Mumbai, while performing brilliantly in the laser radial event of the Senior National Sailing Championship organized by the Yachting Association of India, the academy's star player Harshita Tomar gave Madhya Pradesh a gold medal.

In the 49er Fx event of the competition, a pair of academy players Ekta Yadav and Ritika Dangi earned a gold medal for Madhya Pradesh. While in the 470 Mixed Class event, the pair of Academy player Shraddha Verma and Morena player Ravindra Sharma also won a gold medal in Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, in the 470 mixed class event of the competition, the duo of Academy player Uma Chauhan and former Academy player Sonu Jatav of Dindori won the silver medal to Madhya Pradesh. While the second silver medal was won by Academy players Sheetal Verma and Vanshika Parihar in the 49er Fx event.

It is worth mentioning here that seven sports girls of Water Sports Academy participated in the Senior National Sailing Championship and only seven have won medals after performing brilliantly.

Director Sports and Youth Welfare Pawan Kumar Jain appreciated the talent performance of the players and said that in the first Senior National Sailing Championship after Corona period, the girls of Water Sports Academy won five medals including three gold and two silver.

 In the championship, the players were trained by Arjun Awardee, Chief Instructor of Water Sports Sailing Academy. L. Yadav and Assistant Instructor Anil Sharma.
